AGE: 96 • Neptune

Celia "Nanny" Vetrano, 96, of Neptune, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, with all of her loving family by her side. She was born Dec. 27, 1917 and graduated from Asbury Park High School. Our "Nanny" as everyone called her was predeceased by many including her mother and father, Carmella and Carl Montrose; her husband, Louis J. Vetrano; her in-laws, Dominick and Rose Vetrano; sisters, Helen "Dolly" Peluso and Mary "Muchel" Ballerino; her brothers, Anthony and Carl Montrose; sons-in-law, Salvatore Giresi and Fred Palumbo; brothers-in-law, Sam Vetrano and Joe "Little Toe" Vetrano of the "49'ers", Paul Peluso, and Joe Mike Ballerino; sister-in-law, Connie; a great-grandchild, Cece; and her dear friend, Gertrude Vona. Surviving are her daughters, Cissie Giresi, owner of Cissie's Hair Salon who she lived with, Betty Ann Palumbo of Ocean who made sure Nanny ate lunch everyday and a son, Donnie Vetrano of Florida who always lent a helping hand, and daughter-in-law, Darlyn of Florida. Also surviving are her grandsons, Richard Carlson and girlfriend Nikki, Louis Carlson and girlfriend Michelle, Fred Palumbo, owner of Chicken Holiday of Wanamassa, and Louis Vetrano of Florida; granddaughters, Valerie Palumbo and boyfriend Mike, Gina Palumbo of Ocean and Kristy Hancock and her husband Robert of Florida. Also surviving are "Nanny's" great-granddaughters, Samrah Rose Carlson of Neptune, Victoria (Carlson) White and Tiffany Carlson of Mississippi, Elizabeth and Nicole Vetrano of Florida, and soon-to-be-born Reagan Lynn, and great-grandson, Christian Hancock, and soon-to-be-born great-great-grandson, Aidan. At 96 years of age, "Nanny" has lived a great life and has seen it all, both good times and bad. She was a beautiful lady who always had a smile and we will never forget her famous meatballs or her Italian Easter Bread or meat pie (Nikki's favorite). "Nanny" also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her and special friends who have been in her life unconditionally. A special thank you from the family would like to be extended to the staff of CareOne of Wall. Yolita, your "Cookie" is gone. Also, a special thank you to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care of Shrewsbury for their compassionate and loving care.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Francioni, Taylor & Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th and Atkins Ave., Neptune. A 10 a.m. mass will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach, followed by interment at St. Catharines Cem.
