Eugene R. Baity, Sr., 87, of Neptune, departed his life on April 7, 2014 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born on March 1, 1927 in Tampa, Florida to the late Samuel Baity Sr. and Annie (Purify) Baity. He served his country in the United States Army before graduating from West Virginia State University where he became of member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Eugene taught in the Asbury Park School District for 38 years. He was very instrumental in helping shape young lives. He strongly believed in discipline and respect. He became a board member at the West Side Community Center, was a member of the American Legion Post 226 and served on the Monmouth County Cotillion Committee for many years. Along with his family, he purchased the Neptune Tavern and presided as part owner.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Bertie C. Baity, two sons, Eugene Baity Jr, (Judith) and Barry R. Baity (Bonnie), eight grandchildren; Randolph, Ryan, Jared, Eugene III, Judith, Travis, Trevor and Brianna, seven great-grandchildren, one brother Robert Baity (Rosetta), three sisters-in-law, Mary Baity, Alma Fields and Virginia Harris, one brother-in-law Marshall Randolph and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held at 11 AM with a funeral service at 12 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Second Baptist Church, Asbury Park. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. Condolences may also be made online at www.elyfuneralhome.com.
