Albert Vincent Cassan

AGE: 85 • Toms River

Albert Vincent Cassan, 85, sadly passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. Albert was born on May 15, 1929 to the late Louis Cassan & Irene Erbig Cassan.

Born in Jersey City and a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, Albert resided in Neptune, Lanoka Harbor, and Brick before settling in Toms River, NJ four years ago.

A hard worker, Albert spent 42 years working for Jersey Central Power & Light before retiring in 1995.

A US Navy Veteran, Albert served from 1950 to 1954 and was proud to have served aboard the USS Sierra. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA during his service.

Albert was a staunch Republican and loved to talk about politics. He was also a lifelong baseball fan and had been particularly devoted to both the New York Giants and the New York Mets baseball teams. In addition, he loved to entertain family and friends and enjoyed playing cards, as well as board games, particularly Scrabble. Above everything else, Albert truly loved providing for his family and spending time with the people he loved.

He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, LaVerne Anderson Cassan in 1996 and by his sister, Irene Woods in 2012.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Josephine; his 4 children, Robert Cassan of Forked River, NJ, Nancy Leaberry and husband Charles of Landenberg, PA, Thomas Cassan of Toms River, NJ, and Valerie Cassan Fricker of Landenberg, PA; 4 step-children, Paul B. Poss, Jr. and wife Barbara, Vito Poss and wife Elizabeth, Dorothy Litowinsky, and Kathleen Smith and husband Michael; 4 grandchildren, Jenny, Michael and Andrew Leaberry, and Corey Fricker; and 8 step-grandchildren, Katie Meisenbacher and her daughter Georgia, Joanne Poss and her son Craven, and Rebecca, Vito Paul, Sarah, Kim & Steven Poss, and Jacqueline Litowinsky; and his siblings, Marcella Meadows and wife Linda Bixby, and Vincent Cassan and companion Deidre LaMont.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, May 27th at 10am at St. Dominic RC Church, 250 Old Squan Road, Brick, NJ. Interment will follow at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Chesterfield Arneytown Rd., Wrightstown, NJ.
