William R. Cook Obituary
William R. Cook

Tinton Falls

William R. Cook, of Tinton Falls completed his final worldly adventure on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, peacefully passing with his family by his side after a 16 month courageous battle with cancer. Born in Neptune, Billy was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore. A graduate of Ocean Township High School, he attended Mississippi College and Monmouth College (now Monmouth University). A master craftsman, with partner Robert Evans, Cook-Evans Builders left their mark on many long standing businesses and homes in Ocean and Monmouth Counties. In the 90's Billy worked in New York City as a member of local 257 Carpenters Union, working on projects such as the Baruch City College renovation. In recent years, Billy returned to being self-employed and developed an intimate family of clients that appreciated his dedication to detail, quality, and the art of his work.

A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather Billy was aptly described by a dear friend as a true Renaissance Man. He was a long devotee of ocean fishing, learned the art of fly fishing and was a member of the Bayshore Saltwater Anglers. He immensely enjoyed boating in the Sandy Hook Bay and into the Atlantic Ocean. Nothing was better than a day on the water. He loved to travel, in recent years fishing in Belize and the Bahamas, snorkeling in the Cayman Islands, exploring Rome, Cape Cod and Hawaii. In October he enjoyed a spectacular Mediterranean Cruise, but his all time favorite vacation was with his family when he met "Mickey" and had a magical few days. Billy was a voracious reader and studied the Bhagavad Gita and practiced meditation learned through his participation in the School of Practical Philosophy.

He is predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Veronica Cook and his buddy, Zak (the cat) who predeceased him on June 16. He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Cynthia and his children, Tracey Rudd of Ocean, NJ and Edward Vanga and his longtime girlfriend Valerie Hart of Brick, NJ. He is also survived by his adored granddaughter, Taylor G. Rudd of Ocean, NJ; his two sisters, Kathy Cook of Columbus, TN and Suzan Griffith of Lake Como, NJ and a brother, Greg Cook of Belmar, NJ. Also surviving are two nieces and 4 nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 from 9-12:30 PM with a prayer service from 12:30 - 1:00 PM at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
