Richard G. Thompson, 82, of Port Monmouth, NJ, died on June 20, 2014 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Union Beach most of his life. Richard retired as a painter for Local 1969 Painters Union in NYC. He was also Captain of the Shark Fin fishing boat out of Pt. Pleasant. Richard enjoyed Monmouth Park Racetrack and playing poker in Atlantic City.
Surviving are his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Joyce Thompson of Port Monmouth, and Ronald and Jean Thompson of Hazlet; his three brothers, John and Mary Thompson of Hauppauge, NY, Robert and Rosanne Thompson of Staten Island, and Thomas and Kathy Thompson of Flushing; his sister, Theresa and Edward Huber of Floral Park, NY; his three grandsons, Rick Thompson, Chris Thompson, Kenny Thompson; his granddaughter, Kelly Walpole; his great-grandchildren, Aleena, Ricky, Ryan, and Jace; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Thompson in 2004.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 11-11:30 am at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
