Rocco Edward LaSala 88 of Renaissance, Manchester, died on June 29, 2014. Rocky was born in Wall Twp in 1925 and raised in Spring Lake. He attended Spring Lake Grammar School and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II for three years. Thereafter he worked for the Army as an aviation electronics engineer at Fort Monmouth, retiring after 40 years in 1988. During his career he outfitted numerous special operations helicopters with state-of-the-art electronic systems. Rocky lived in Wall Twp before moving to Manchester in 1998. His favorite pastime was metal detecting on the Jersey beaches and he spent many years as a member of the Jersey Shore Treasure Hunters Club. Rocky was a member of the American Legion of Spring Lake, Italian American Club, Wine Tasting Club and the Men's Club of Renaissance. He and Libby were fond of square dancing, playing tennis, cross-country skiing and traveling. His parents, Rocco and Rose, and brother Vernon predeceased him. Surviving his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth (Libby), three sons: John & wife Joyce of Wilmington, NC, Richard & wife Patricia of Eatontown, and Thomas of Toms River; brother, Joe, of Merritt Island, FL; five grandchildren: John Jr. of Avenel, Jeffrey of Bronx, NY, Jason of Eatontown, Jason of Toms River, Thomas Jr. of Howell and four great grandchildren: Gia Marie LaSala, Vincent Rocco and Maxwell John LaSala, and Sebastian Elessar LaSala. Memorial Gathering is Thursday 1-5 PM with a 4 PM service at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester.
