John Farruggio, Sr.

AGE: 91 • Belmar

John (Grandpa) Farruggio Sr., age 91, of Belmar, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Born in Neptune, John spent his entire life as a resident of the Jersey Shore. Honorably serving his country through the U.S. Army as Corporal 813rd AAF Base Unit, he earned the American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After the Army, John worked for and retired from Fort Monmouth. His passion for golf led him to caddy at Deal Golf and Country Club for nearly half a century. An eternally generous, caring, and thoughtful man by nature, John was known to take annual car rides down to Florida to see family and friends. Known by many as Grandpa "Gramps," his favorite past time was attending any and all activities, sporting or otherwise that his grandchildren participated in and was known by all as their #1 fan. When not rooting for his grandchildren, he was an avid fan of the New York Jets and the New York Mets.

John was predeceased by parents, Joseph and Lena, and siblings, Charlie, Josephine, Sadie, Mary, Rose, Jim, Jean, and Millie. He is survived by his four sons, John "Chip" and wife Cami, Timothy, Michael, and Stephen. Also surviving are brother, Joseph Farruggio and his wife Barbara and sister, Angi Jackson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Nicole and her husband Steve, Mark and fiance' Kelly, John, and Chelsea; two great grandchildren, Eric and Nola, and the mother of his children, Dorothy Stowman. John will also be missed by extended family members who thought the world of him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation Thursday, July 10, 4-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A funeral service will be Friday, July 11 at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Neptune.
