AGE: 98 • Hazlet

Christine F. Cavalli, 98, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, July 13, 2014, at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. She was born Christine F. Maraziti on Sept. 9, 1915 in Jersey City, where she grew up. In 1958, she and her husband, Basil, settled in Hazlet to raise their family. In 1976, they moved to Cheesequake Village in Matawan and in 2008, Christine returned to Hazlet to reside with her daughter Rosanne. Christine was a graduate of Dickerson High School and soon after graduation, went onto work as a bookkeeper for many years. She was a past member and commander of the ladies auxiliary for Sergeant Anthony D'Andrea VFW Post 5481 in Jersey City and after moving to Matawan, also became a member and commander of the ladies auxiliary for the Cheesequake Village VFW. Christine was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed knitting, playing cards and cooking; but most of all, Christine absolutely loved the opera. She was predeceased by her parents, Giacchino and Frances (Arturi) Maraziti, her beloved and devoted husband, Basil Cavalli, her brothers, Frank and Rosario, her sisters, Eleanor, Rose, Carmela and Mary; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie and Joe Longo, Theresa and James McBride, Samuel Lombarde and Madeline Liberatore; and her very special nephew, Salvatore Lombarde. Christine is survived by her loving children, Francis X. Cavalli of Whiting, Rosanne Velardo and her husband Arthur of Hazlet, with whom Christine resided, her dear sister, Victoria Lombarde and her brother-in-law, Vincent Liberatore. Christine is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Andrea Azumbrada and her husband John, Francis Cavalli and his wife Agnes, Arthur Velardo and his wife Diane and Christine Berni and her husband Alan, along with her adored great-grandchildren, Melissa, Gabriella, Stephen, Nicole, Joseph and Alessandro, her special great-great-grandsons, Jaden and Matthew and many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 and from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Rt. 35 N, Hazlet. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17 at St. Benedict R.C. Church, Holmdel. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
