Dorothy Mae Whitt Allen

Dorothy Mae Whitt Allen, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at her home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Dottie (as she was commonly known) was born on March 26, 1936 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi to the late Richard D. and Lula Long Whitt. Dottie was a registered nurse who worked in a wide variety of settings. She and her former husband, David L. Allen, raised their four boys in Middletown, NJ before retiring and moving to Port Charlotte. She enjoyed many activities with her wide circle of friends including tennis, cycling, kayaking, bridge, mahjong and trivia.
Dottie is survived by her sons, Donald LeRoy (Alice), Bismarck, ND, Gregory David (Laura), Port Monmouth, NJ, and Mark Curry (Cynthia) Allen, Red Bank, NJ; seven grandchildren, James and Christina Allen, David, Jennifer and Kristen Allen, and Mark and Sean Allen, and also one great-granddaughter, Clara Rose Connolly. She is predeceased by her son, Scott Michael Allen.
She is also survived by one brother, Hiram "Shorty" (Avis) Whitt and seven sisters, Mary Hall, Lois O'Connor, Shelby Whitt, Ellen (Mike) McCartney, Sybil (Tom) Colmus, Doris (Ric) Taylor, Fay (Oscar) Rocha and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at San Antonio Catholic Church, Port Charlotte, FL. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Ave., Middletown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the
