F. Jon Baum

F. Jon Baum (aka Jon The Tailor) died Thursday night, July 31, 2014 as the result of a head injury suffered a week earlier. Born in North Jersey, Jon was in the first graduating class of Scotch Plains High School, and remained a close and loyal friend to several from those days. He had a son, Erik, with his first wife. After a second marriage, Jon found himself moving to be with family who settled in Ocean County, and he opened a store that became a fixture in the Toms River business district: Tailoring While U Wait. A few years later, Jon determined that he and the world at large would be better off if he stopped ingesting alcohol, and soon after he found himself affiliated with numerous boards and committees that addressed various alcohol, drug and mental health issues. Almost all of this work was on a volunteer status, and Jon's tireless advocacy let countless suffering souls get access to help they needed and a chance to better their lives. In the 1980s Jon found the love of his life, (Margaret) Libby Winn. They married 25 years ago, and enjoyed so much that life had to offer.

Jon was pre-deceased by his mother, Marion Estrin, and his brother, Bob. He is survived by Libby, Erik; his brother, Steve Estrin (and his wife Olivia), and in-laws from the Winn-Byrnes Clan who embraced him and made him one of theirs, something that meant the world to him. All of these people and so many others in Ocean County and beyond lost a…. True Character. Peace be with you, Jon The Tailor.
