AGE: 84 • Wall Township
Marie C. Flatley passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014. She was born in Jersey City, and lived there and then in Fanwood before moving to Wall Township in 1994. Marie was employed as the Head Buyer in the Bridal Department of Lord & Taylor Stores for 40 years. During her retirement, Marie enjoyed traveling, frequenting Monmouth Park Racetrack, and walking the boardwalk. She was a regular on the Avon Beach where she enjoyed the company of her two sisters.
Marie will be remembered for her strong, independent nature; always insisting, "I can do that!" She was a thoughtful, considerate, and loving woman. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her great-nieces and nephews and laughing at all their antics. Friends and family will miss being told, "You're the best!" in response to any small gesture. Marie was a devout Catholic and a faithful communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Anne and William Flatley; her brothers, Bill and Gene Flatley; her brother-in-law, Bob Maliff; and her nephew, Jeff Mahon. She is survived by her sisters, Annaclaire Maliff, Eileen Mahon, and her brother-in-law, Robert Mahon. She will be greatly missed by her 11 nieces and nephews: Marianne, Irene, Liz, Terry, Billy, Maura, Robert, Bob, Tom, Terence, and Michael, as well as 26 much-loved grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be from 2-6 pm on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Route 35, Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 AM on Monday, August 4, 2014 at St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church in Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jeff Mahon Memorial Scholarship Fund, 429 Jefferson Ave, Avon, NJ 07717.
