Gerard K. Schear, 94, passed away August 5, 2014 at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood. Mr. Schear was born in Elizabeth, he was employed in the Panama Canal Zone for 29 years with the federal government, before moving to Lakewood in 1975 following his retirement from the Panama Canal Company. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and retired as a Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve in 1980. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 166, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, Air Force Sergeants Association and a communicant of the St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Schear is predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Robert. Gerard is survived by his former spouse Kanoko M., two sons Frank and his wife Stacey and John and his wife Carolyn, granddaughters, Courtney and Corinne, sister-in-law, Pauline Schear and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday, August 8, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the D'Elia Funeral Home Rt. 70 & Vermont Ave. Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 12 Noon at the St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood. Cremation will be private.
