Chief John P Broking 83 of Manchester passed from this life on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Jersey City, he was raised and spent most of his life in Guttenberg before moving to Manchester 10 years ago. He was Chief of Police for Guttenberg Police Dept. for 27 years where he touched many lives and hearts before retiring in 1996. He served in the Marines during Korea from 1952-1960. He was a lifetime and gold member and also the past president for several years for the Chief of Police Association in Hudson County, and the Silverton Retired Police & Fireman's Association. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and sense of humor. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Anne H (Drobinski), 3 brothers, Richard & wife Dolores, Raymond & wife Betty and David, nephews, Raymond, Michael, Christopher, Scott, Brian, and niece Ellen and also 3 great nephews, Luke, Trevor & Casey. Visitation is Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Thursday 10 Am at St John's Church, Lakehurst with interment to follow at Brigadier Gen Wm C Doyle NJ Veteran's Cemetery.
