Lillian Franklin, 96, of Asbury Park, NJ, passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. Lillian was born and raised in Brownsville, PA. As a young adult, she lived in New York City. She then moved to the Jersey Shore where she spent about 60 years of her life. Following Hurricane Sandy, she moved to Maryland. Lillian worked in finance and accounting for most of her career. For 25 years, she worked at Fort Monmouth, NJ. Notably, she earned her college degree from Brookdale Community College at age 77. She put a very high value on education, attending educational lectures throughout her lifetime including during her retirement and passed her love of learning through the generations. She was also an avid gardener who loved growing roses, peonies, lilacs and vegetables.
She was predeceased by her father, Adolph Herskovitz; mother, Jennie Herskovitz, and siblings, Fannie Herskovitz, Meyer Herskovitz, Ruth Goodman, and Rose Ross. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Diane Kufert of Texas, and Laura Daks of Maryland; her grandchildren, Joseph Kufert of Texas and Jennifer Daks of Maryland; great-grandchildren, Ava and Alaina Kufert of Texas; her niece, Lisa Stevens of Georgia and her children, Coty, Kevin and Chad Stevens; her nephews, Douglas Elliot of New York and Thomas Herskovitz of Tennessee and his children, Daniel and Shawn Herskovitz. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and the spouses of those mentioned above.
