Donald E. Burns (Don), 74, of Leisure Knoll, Manchester, formerly of Lake Ridge, Toms River, passed away Tuesday Aug. 19, 2014. Don spent many years working for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring as Post Master from Franklin Lakes Post Office. Prior to that, he was Post Master of Haskell Post Office. Born in Jersey City, he raised his children in Vernon and resided in Toms River before moving to Manchester in 2001. Baseball was Don's passion. He was coach and assistant coach for the Leisure Knoll Owls Softball Team and past member of the Lake Ridge Softball Team. While living in Vernon, he started Vernon Little League and Vernon Youth Football and was also Cubmaster of Cub Scouts Pack 283. Don was predeceased by his father, Michael Burns; his mother, Serena Kaminksi; his first wife, Janice McGarry Burns; and 3 brothers, Daniel Burns, Robert Burns, John Burns. Don is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Ruth Burns; 3 sons, Patrick Burns and his girlfriend Robin of Charleston, NH, Thomas Burns and his wife Linda of Lodi, Gary Burns and his wife Seliena of Tampa, FL; 2 step-children, Sandra DeLuca and her husband Paul of Budd Lake, and Joseph Gerardi of Wayne; his brother, Walter Kaminski and his wife Donna of Largo, FL; 2 sisters, Mary Lynn Lager and her husband John of Newnan, GA, and Serena C. Metzler of Monticello, GA; and 6 grandchildren, Tyler & Tasha Burns, Amanda & Christian DeLuca, and Jorge & Emily Alverez. Viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014 and from 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. at DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, 119 Union Ave., Lakehurst.
