James Reagan

AGE: 86 • Rumson

James Edward Reagan, 86, a 48 year Rumson resident died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness on Aug. 22, 2014. James (Jim) was born on July 3, 1928 in Linden, NJ to Lawrence and Anna (McGonigle) Reagan. In 1945 he graduated from Linden HS at the age of 16. He immediately went to work for NJ Bell, starting in the mail room. Within 5 years he was promoted into management, where he served in various capacities until retiring in 1985. He then founded MOR Services where he was the president for 8 years. Jim knew he had "made it" when he paid off his mortgage and bought a Lincoln Continental. For Jim, family always came first. He met the love of his life, Dolores ("Dory"), while working as a lifeguard and they were married on May 6, 1950. As their family grew, Jim became active in youth sports. In addition to coaching, he was a co-founder of the CYRC in Rahway and later was President of the RFH Booster Club in 1973. Jim was also a regular bowler, bowling for NJ Bell and Briody's As their children grew older, Jim and Dory enjoyed travel to Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska and New Mexico, and wintered in Florida for over 20 years. Jim was a long time communicant and usher at Holy Cross, Rumson. He and his wife Dory have volunteered at The Center in Asbury Park since 1992. They were also members of the Nifty Fifties at the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Thomas, in 1991 and his brother, Lawrence Reagan III. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Dolores (Dory) Federkeil Reagan; sons James of NYC, Michael and wife Jean of Middletown and William and wife Stacy of Tinton Falls; grandchildren Amanda Grace Chimento and husband Mike, Michael Lawrence Reagan and Cassandra Brielle Reagan, his great-grandson, Matthew Michael Chimento and nieces Arleen Read and Judy Reagan.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 25th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 26th 10:30 am at Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach, NJ. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim's name to the Center in Asbury Park, 806 Third Ave., PO Box 832, Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
