Margaret Kenny Butler Rosa

AGE: 91 • Spring Lake

Margaret Kenny Butler Rosa, 91, died peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Peg was born the youngest of five children on March 23, 1923 in Jersey City, to Margaret Sheridan and Michael Kenny. She attended The Academy of St. Aloysius in Jersey City where she was a proud member of the "Bluebird Club" and loved hanging out at the "LA." After graduation, Peggy worked at Western Electric and married Thomas Butler in 1945. The two lived happily together with their 7 children until his sudden death in 1965. While living in Jersey City, Peggy was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. In 1968, Peggy married Francis X. Rosa and the pair moved their combined family of 17 to Spring Lake in 1970. At age sixty, Peggy received her LPN and became a certified volunteer of the Spring Lake First Aid Squad. There was no one more willing to help others than Peggy. Peggy could often be found sitting at the kitchen table or front porch rocker sipping a cup of tea. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and reciting poetry. Peggy was quick to laugh and always enjoyed a good story or joke. Her sparkling wit and genuine warmth and welcome to all, made her beloved to not only her family, but countless friends. She was quick to give a kind word or a sweet treat to the many children who adored her. A joyful and luminous presence, her passing is a tremendous loss to her devoted family.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Butler, in 1965 and her husband of 45 years, Francis Xavier Rosa. She is also predeceased by her two sons, Thomas and Joseph Kenny Butler and her son-in-law, Francis X. Ford. She is survived by her children: Robert and Kathleen Rosa of Ocean; Sue Butler of Jersey City; Carol Butler of Point Pleasant; Maryellen and Thomas Groth of Nutley; SueAnn Rosa of Cape Cod; Brian and Donna Butler of Neptune; Neil and Debby Rosa of Wall; Kevin and Marie Butler of Wall; Peggy and Tony D'Antonio of Neptune; Steven and Marianne Rosa of Spring Lake Heights; Adrienne and Robert Mahon of Avon; Peggy and Michael Keane of Belmar; Marcie and James Wolleon of Spring Lake Heights; Janet Ford of Spring Lake Heights; Eileen Rosa at home. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Mark, Luke, Molly, Lynn, Evan, Shayna, Rory, Brianne, Rachael, Michelle, Melinda, Travis, Coral, Kate, Jared, Margaret, Meredith, Cecilia, Nicholas, Keith, Alex, Ashley, Alyssa, Kaela, Kerry, Robert, Christopher, Shawna, Caitlin, Ryan, Erin, Jessica, Julia, and Bridget; their 15 spouses, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
