Lorna Hewes Chapin, 88, of Highlands, formerly of Rumson, passed away Monday, Aug, 25, 2014, peacefully at home. She was born in Larchmont, NY to the late Frederick Leland and Mildred (nee Collins) Hewes. She is also predeceased by her sister, Mona.
Lorna print modeled for the Harry Conover Agency and while living in NJ was a dental secretary for Howard Silver, DDS. During her life, she was an active member of the Junior League of Monmouth County and volunteer at Planned Parenthood Sustainers. She also volunteered and did charitable work for Family and Children's Services and the Charity Ball Committee of Monmouth Park.
Lorna is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, F. Don Chapin and her loving children, Donna, Diane, Craig and his wife Claire and Bradley and his wife Sharon. She is the cherished grandmother of Corey, Sara, Elizabeth and Kyle. Also surviving is her niece, Lorna and her nephew, Laird. The family is grateful for the wonderful attentive care that her aide Winsome McKenzie gave her through the years.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, with services beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank.
