Barbara A. Pitts formerly from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, of Brick, NJ passed away on April 29, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune..

At the age of 18 in 1950, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York and was a member until 1972. She became a Baby Nurse at the New York Founding Hospital and taught in the Nursing School. She also taught Elementary School and was a Child Care Worker for Adolescent Girls at Saint Agatha's Home in Nanuet, N.Y.

She received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Fordham University and for 22 years she work for the Dept. of Mental Hygiene as a Team Leader; Out Patient Services for the South Beach Psychiatric Hospital in Staten Island, She also supervised many students from various Universities in field placement at South Beach.

She retired in 1992 but one year later did clinical work part time at Catholic Charities in Toms River until 1998. She loved the beach, played golf and was a member of the Lions Head Country Club and belonged to the Bowling League at Lions Head. She was an avid traveler and visited most of the countries of the world.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth [McGurgan], her two sisters Arlene Medican and Jeanne Pitts. She is survived by many cousins and friends, she will be solely missed by all her knew her.

Visiting will be Wednesday 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home 2482 Church Rd. Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 9:30am at St. Justin's RC Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at Saint Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
