AGE: 90 • Harrogate, Lakewood, formerly of
Chadwick Beach Island
Helen May Goehry, 90, of Harrogate, Lakewood, NJ, formerly of Chadwick Beach Island, Toms River, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at home.
Born in Bloomfield, NJ, she raised her family in Bloomfield and later lived in Massachusetts for 13 years. In 1990 she moved to Chadwick Beach Island after summering there since 1972. She has lived at Harrogate for the past 4 years.
Helen graduated Magna Cum Laude from William Paterson College in 1969, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was a teacher for the Bloomfield School System for several years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, where she was very active in the food pantry. She was also a member of the church's Toms River Presbyterian Women.
Helen was a member of Deborah and served as an officer of the Ocean Beach Senior Group.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Goehry, in 2006, her daughter Carol Kerr in 2011 and a brother Raymond Hochstuhl.
Helen is survived by her two children Suzanne Neumann and her husband Keith Painter of Toms River, Arthur Goehry and his wife Joanne of Lambertville, NJ, five grandchildren Stacey Lynne Bailey, Daniel Goehry, Nicole Fitzpatrick, Benjamin Kerr, Elizabeth Kerr and five great grandchildren Madison Bailey, Tannor and Teegan Fitzpatrick, Jackson and David Goehry.
Helen will be remembered for her vibrant personality, wonderful sense of humor, exhaustive knowledge and most of all, devout friendship.
The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A funeral service will be offered Saturday 11:30am at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. Committal will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holisticare Hospice, 1144 Hooper Ave, Suite 208
Toms River, NJ 08753 or to the Presbyterian Church of Toms River Mortgage Fund, 1070 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ 08753.
