Carter Stone

AGE: 32 •

A beautiful life cut short way too soon, Carter Armour Stone, passed away on September 26th from a drug overdose. He was 32 years old.

To know Carter, was to love Carter. His beautiful smile and baby blue eyes would warm your heart in an instant. He always showed acts of kindness, was compassionate, happy, gentle and loving. He loved to cook, golf, go to the gym, listen to country music, spend time at the beach, ride his bike on the boardwalk, spend time with his family and friends and had tremendous passion for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, Godfather, cousin and grandson.

Unfortunately, in the last year of Carter's life, he used prescription opioids to cope with some stressful situations. Following a car accident and a back-injury, things took a sad turn for the worse. When prescription opioids run out, many turn to heroin. In a matter of a couple months, heroin took a hold of Carter and never let go.

Knowing he was better than the addiction and wanting a better life, with the love and support of his family, Carter sought professional treatment and was doing well. He was excited to be back in the car business, employed at a local car dealership in Atlantic City as the Manager of the Internet Sales Department. He was living one day at a time and was incredibly proud of his hard work. He dreamed of having a family, working hard and living life to the fullest. He felt happier than he had been in a long time.

Sadly, a momentary lapse of judgement, resulted in a relapse that took Carters life from him in an instant. If you know someone who is suffering from addiction, please seek out resources to help. If something doesn't seem right with a friend or loved one, listen to your intuition and speak up. Please don't wait. It could mean the difference of life or death. Most importantly, always tell your loved ones how much you love them.

Carter was preceded in death by his Grandmothers, Lois Anne Galbraith and Iris McComas, Grandfather Duane Stone and Uncle Terry Galbraith.

He is survived by his parents-Wendy Galbraith, James Stone, brother Christopher Stone, sister and brother-in-law, Lauren and Jordan Wright, nephews and niece, Rocco, Duke and Presley; maternal grandfather Arnold Galbraith; Aunt Donna and Uncle Harry; cousins Robin, Brian and Michelle; Aunt Paula and Uncle Tim; cousins Blakely and Dylan; Aunt Rita and Uncle Peter; cousins Hunter and Peter Jr; Aunt Pam and Uncle Al; cousins Christine, Steven and Ryan.

A Memorial Service will be held at Tower Hill Church, 255 Harding Road, Redbank, NJ 07701 at 1PM on Tuesday, October 10th. All family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Carter Stone.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Surfside Structured Sober Living. Checks can be made out to Surfside Recovery Services and mailed to 3 Edgewood Drive, Somers Point, NJ 08244. Please note in the memo: "Scholarship Fund," as we would like to help someone who does not have the financial means for addiction support.

Carter was an impressively blessed young man possessing many God given attributes from both his mother and father. His passing is profoundly felt by everyone who knew him.

The family's front on attack of addiction is a brave, painful path on which to greivingly travel. I pray for their peace, and for an inclusiveness of understanding to other types of addiction...
We live in an unprecedented time of abundance and opportunity, which together can enrich our lives, or be our undoing.

You are such a special family with strength to push forward in Carter's memory, to bring healing to others, and help them onto a path from the enslavement of substance addiction. God bless each one of you.

Rest In Peace Carter "Car-tee-aye". This breaks my heart to write...I'll remember you as the carefree spirited, fun loving man that always made me laugh. You were a huge part of my last year at Coastal and for that I'm forever grateful. You'll always have a special place with me. Until we meet again friend, rest well.

I met Carter the Wednesday before his passing and spent an hour with him discussing his professional strengths, assets, interests, and experience. He was jovial, articulate, bright-eyed, and thoroughly enjoyable. There was no arrogance in his charm, no insecurity in his humility. I immediately liked him and looked forward to the opportunity to know him better. Surely a life as vibrant as his will be celebrated and remembered by many "anonymous" folks like me whose lives he touched. My deepest condolences to the family who raised this kind gentleman. I can feel the ache of this loss and wish for your peace in the days ahead.

Carter was one of the special ones...one of the reasons we become teachers. His smile was like the sunshine and always with a twinkle in his eyes. On those days when you knew you were not at the top of your game, his brilliant personality and contagious humor could seemingly, with little effort, turn around the day. My deepest condolences to his family and much respect for their courage to reach out to others in need and despair...may God bless his beautiful soul.

To Carter's loved ones,

I commend your family so much for your raw honesty here, and for staring down this ugly addiction. I was one of the lucky friends of Carter's from Coastal-- he was charming, sweet and hilarious. He will be missed, and I know just from reading this that you won't let his death be in vain or his memory forgotten. Wishing you happy memories to get through.

Sincerely,

Julie Mara

I am so sorry to hear about Carter's death. I knew him from his high school days at RBR. He was such a likable, authentic and inquisitive person. I've thought about him over the years and I'm so sad to hear this news. I appreciate the honesty in his obituary. We mustn't be afraid to speak the truth about addiction. May he Rest In Peace.

We didn't really know each other, we went to the same high school. But he did leave a good impression. So much so that I was inspired by how 'chill and easy going' he was, enough so that I chose to name my youngest son Carter. When we picked the name I thought "Carter, thats the perfect name, it reminds me of that kid Carter from high school who was just so loveable and cute". To his family, I know what it's like to lose someone. I wanted to share this to let you know his memory will live on, through the memories you all have of him and through people you didn't even know that knew him.

I met Carter at an important time in both of our lives. We had an opportunity to make a change in ourselves. Carter made everyday of this tough time a blast and never failed to light up any room that he walked in. I am so grateful I had the blessing to live with Carter Stone. He had a heavy impact on my life in such a positive way. You will be missed brother!

Hey Carter. Your personality was exactly as they described on your obituary. From the first time I met you with Nico and every time after that, you were so nice and sweet. I absolutely hate to hear you lost your life at such a young age and didn't get to experience a family and all the other things this life has to offer. Rest easy my friend and keep an eye on all of us down here that you know. My heart is heavy.
