Frank Stavola, 81, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Middletown, he was a lifelong resident. He was a founder of Stavola Company. He was the past president of the N.J. Asphalt Paving Association, a member of the 825 Operation Engineers, a member of the Wayside Skeet Club, a founding member of the Earle Weapons Station Shooters Club, a registered farmer in the State of New Jersey raising cattle and hay, and a past member of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club. Frank was an avid outdoorsman and was a respected hunter and fisherman. Frank also enjoyed spending time with his family and cutting grass. During the Korean War, he was an infantry leader and sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Frank was predeceased by his son, Frank Jr., in 1996; two brothers, John and Mike; and three sisters, Mary Buttel, Lou DePiero, and Neddie Ottinger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Dorothy May Stavola; two sons, Jack and his wife Beth of Middletown, and Rick and his wife Lisa of Morganville; two grandsons, Richard Jr. and Alexander; four granddaughters, Frankie, Ava, Julie, and Elle; two brothers, Jim and Joe, both of Middletown; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and his very devoted caregiver, Jenny.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 30 Ward Ave., Rumson. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Frank Stavola.
