HERBERT WALTER EITEL, JR.
AGE: 77 WHITING
Herbert (Herb) Walter Eitel, Jr. 77, died peacefully at his home Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 in Whiting, NJ after a two year battle with cancer. Born and raised in Wilkes Barre, PA., he was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Cyrus Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Community Reformed Church in Whiting, NJ. After being discharged from the Army he started his career as a telegraph operator in Princeton, NJ in 1953. He and his wife moved to the Crabtree Section of Levittown, PA in 1954 along with their new born son. He retired from the State of NJ in 1997 moving with his wife Sandra to Whiting, NJ a few years later. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading and going to Atlantic City, and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Elizabeth Jenkins Eitel; his parents, Herbert Walter Eitel, Sr. and Mertle Ellen Eitel; brother-in-laws, John M. Jenkins, Jr., and Frederick Jenkins; sister-in-laws, Lucille Jenkins, and Marianne Eitel. He is survived by his brother, James Eitel and his sister-in-law, Madeline Jenkins. He is survived by his children, son, Howard M. and Cindy Eitel, daughter, Susan and Christopher Golden, son, Carl F. and Sharon Eitel and his beloved grandchildren, Carrie Lynn and Darren Michael, Jessica Eitel and David James Eitel and his great granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Michael.
A private service will be held on December 26th at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, Whiting. In the spring, he and his wife will be laid to rest together at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
