Mark Joseph Catalano, 54, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Mr. Catalano was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., before settling in Jackson. Detective Catalano was a 28 year veteran of the Toms River Police Department. Detective Catalano was a member of P.B.A. Local #137, a member of the Ocean Running Club and a member of the Jersey Shore Tri-Club.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara Nickel Catalano; his daughters and son-in-law, Brooke Catalan-Korenthal and Russell Korenthal of Toms River, and Brittany Catalano of Jackson; his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Catalano of Manahawkin; his brother, John Catalano of Manahawkin; his granddaughter, Emma Korenthal; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Nickel; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Nickel.
Relatives, friends and colleagues are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of The Lake Roman Catholic Church, Route 9 North at Route 88, Lakewood.
