Melba Jean "Cookie" Slocum, 66, of Wall, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia with her family by her side. Cookie was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Rev. and Mrs. Wilburn P. Craig having served as missionaries from the North Texas District in Assemblies of God to the Indian Villages of Anchorage, Alaska. Cookie and her husband Raymond first met at Full Gospel Church, Neptune, NJ in 1965 and they married on August 12, 1967. Cookie has been a licensed beautician for over 46 years and opened the family salon, Adam and Eve at Colfax Plaza in 1987. Cookie always felt blessed to have the extended family of co-workers and friends throughout her life. She was an example of Jesus Christ to everyone she came in contact with, even without speaking.

Cookie was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Raymond Slocum of Wall; two loving daughters and two sons -in-law, Melissa Jean and Donald Dean Van Koppen of Shark River Hills and Alicia Joy and Joshua Allard of Houston Texas; her four cherished grandchildren Caleb Paul, Sadie Rae, Hannah Joy, and Noah Steven. Cookie is also survived by her brother Wilburn P. Craig, Jr. of Anchorage Alaska; two sisters Dora Ann Gosney and her husband George of Keller, Texas and Wilma Joy "Joy" Stahl and her husband Clyde of Paonia, Colorado; a sister-in-law and her husband Barbara and Tom Somers of Wescosville, PA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday April 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. Funeral Service will be 10 am Tuesday April 26 at the funeral home. The burial will take place Saturday April 30, in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth Texas where Cookie's parents are. Memorial donations may be made to Monmouth Medical Foundation, 300 Second Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
