John H. Brooks, Sr.

AGE: 89 • Whiting

John H. Brooks, Sr., 89, passed away at his residence on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. John was born in Coatesville, PA and resided most of his life in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Whiting 22 years ago. He was an active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and a Lay Eucharistic Minister. John enjoyed fishing and bowling and was a member of several clubs in his community including: the Men's Club, Garden Club, Newspaper Gang, Security Patrol, and Fishing Club. John proudly served his country during World War II as a Sergeant (1941-1945) in Italy and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He then went on to serve in the National Guard, retiring after 33 years of service in 1982 as Master Sergeant.

John is predeceased by his brother, Carl Brooks and sister, Fran Oliver. John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruthann Brooks; sons, John H., Jr. and his wife Lisa N. of Hazlet, NJ, Roger and his wife Cindy of Manalapan, NJ; daughter, Elaine and her husband Richard Gaw of Landenberg, PA; grandchildren, Tiffany D'Agostino and her husband Mario of Jackson, NJ, Steffany Brooks of Manalapan, NJ; one great grandchild, Madison Raimondo, and sisters, Elaine Forbes and Jane Trice both of Coatesville, PA. John was beloved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 30th from 2-6pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd, Whiting. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 31st at 12pm from St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 180 Rte. 530, Whiting. Interment will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
