Edward Victor Erm

AGE: 75 • Point Pleasant

Edward Victor Erm, 75 years old, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012. He was born June 15, 1936 in Elizabeth to Edward and Victoria Erm, and spent his childhood years in Linden, where he met his wife, Betty. He spent many summers down the shore, fishing and swimming. He attended St. Michael's Grammar School, and graduated from Linden High School in 1954. He then joined the Coast Guard, during which he traveled to the ends of the Earth, including a voyage around the horn of Africa. He left the Coast Guard in 1959 to marry his childhood sweetheart on May 10 of that same year. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Janet, they moved to Point Pleasant. He was employed by Toms River Chemical, later known as Ciba-Geigy, until his retirement in 1996. He also worked part-time as a bartender at the Bay Head Yacht Club. Over the years, he was an active life member of both Point Pleasant's First Aid and Fire Company No. 2. He was also a longtime member of the Point Pleasant Elks, Lodge 1698, since 1979. He has been an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bay Head, attending daily and assisting with many church activities. He enjoyed camping, swimming and wintering in Florida.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Victoria; his brother, Robert; and his grandson, William. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Betty); daughter, Janet Taylor and her husband Tom; his son, Edward and his wife Mary; and his son, Chris and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his brother, Frank and his wife Gail; his pride and joys, his grandchildren, Shawn Erm and Christine and her husband John Goida, as well as numerous cousins, friends and family.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head. A private cremation will follow.
