John Ternyila Sr. of Long Beach Township, NJ passed away Thursday May 24, 2012 peacefully at his home. John was born January 2, 1930 in Sayreville, NJ to the late John and Eva Ternyila. He resided most of his life in North Brunswick before moving to Long Beach Island in 2001.
He leaves behind his loving wife Ruth of almost 60 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are children: John Ternyila, Jr. and wife Karol of Milltown NJ; Janet Hoffman and husband Ron of St. Peters, PA; Jim Ternyila and wife Theresa of Mickleton, NJ; Tom Ternyila and wife Tina of South Plainfield, NJ. Also surviving are his 7 beloved grandchildren: Brian, Jeff, Erin, Peter and wife Kelly, Jimmy, Sara and Jack; sister, Margaret Fiorino of Edison, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
John was a graduate of the 1947 class of St. Peters High School in New Brunswick and went on to Rutgers University, graduating in 1951. He held various financial positions throughout his career and eventually retired from Electro-Catheter in Rahway, NJ as Chief Financial Officer in 1995. John was as an active member of the Planning Board on Long Beach Island. In addition, he enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener who prided himself on his backyard at the beach. He was a true Rutgers Scarlet Knight Football and Basketball fan. John was always there to lend advice, help and guidance to his family, friends and neighbors in times of need. He will leave a void in the many lives he touched through the years.
The viewing and service will be held on Sunday May 28, 2012 at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street & the Boulevard in Ship Bottom, Long Beach Island from 3pm to 6pm. In the near future a memorial service will be held in Central New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the
