Joyce Marion Abrams, 69, of Waretown, formerly of Ocean Grove, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at King James Care Center in Chatham. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, in 2001. Raised in North Arlington, NJ, she had lived in Mesa, Ariz., San Antonio, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Selma, Ala., before returning to NJ 30 years ago. Joyce received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from Upsala College, NJ, and her Master's Degree in Student Personnel and Guidance from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She was an English teacher for many years and then ended her career as a guidance counselor at Neptune High School. She was vice president of the Neptune Township Education Association and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ocean Grove. Upon her husband's demise, Joyce moved to Greenbriar Oceanaire in Waretown, and was one of the founding members of the Solo Club, as well as a member of the Republican Club. She loved dancing, singing, and gardening as well as spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Tammy J. Hamilton and Troy of Chatham, and Tracy L. Winkler and Max Jr. of Longmeadow, MA. Her five grandchildren include Joshua and Casey Hamilton, and Brianna, Max III, and Christian Winkler. Also surviving are her identical twin sister and brother-in-law, Joan Kartan and Frank of River Vale.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 13 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 80 Embury Ave., Ocean Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, General Fund.
