Helen E. "Betty" Lameo, 85, of Asbury Park, died peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Manor By The Sea in Ocean Grove. Mrs. Lameo was a 1944 graduate of Long Branch High School and worked as an operator for AT&T and later worked for EAI in West Long Branch. After 40 years as a bookkeeper for Arthur Simon, CPA in Spring Lake, Mrs. Lameo retired. She also worked part-time for AMK Associates, LLC for 16 years. As a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 2226, Oakhurst, she held various offices including President. She was also a member of the MOC, volunteered for the Home League of the Salvation Army and received numerous volunteer awards from the PHNJ. She served as treasurer for the Asbury Tower Resident Association where she was the founder and originator of the Tower Treasures Thrift Shop that began in 1994 to raise money to purchase a bus. The thrift shop continues to thrive today. She participated in many activities at Asbury Tower including: the Asbury Tower Chorus, Tower Theatrics, drumming & bell ringing. She was chairman of the entertainment committee and volunteered her help for numerous parties.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Edgar Hugh Ireland in 1972 and Peter Lameo in 1981. Surviving are: her sons, David Ireland & his wife Diane of Jackson, Steve Ireland, & his wife Lynn of Ocean Township, her daughter, Colleen Ireland of West Allenhurst, 3 granddaughters: Kerri Simons & her husband Jeremy, Kelly McManus & her husband, Todd, Heather Tuccolo & her husband Mike, two great-grandchildren: David and Victoria Simons plus Karly McManus, due in November, her stepsons: Terry Lameo & his wife Samantha, Rusty Lameo & his wife Jill, her step-daughter, Sharon Bradley & her husband John plus six step-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Flock Funeral Home, 243 Broadway, Long Branch. A VFW service will be held during the visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the VNA of Central Jersey, 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701 or to the VFW Post 2226, 212 Norwood Avenue, Oakhurst, NJ 07755 would be appreciated.
