Richard Marco Cappello

AGE: 80 • Toms River

Richard Marco Cappello, 80, of Toms River, NJ, passed on Friday, November 2, 2012. Born in Hoboken, NJ Richard spent his youth hopping train turnstiles to go into NYC and as a young man he met the love of his life, Esther, at her family chicken market in Hoboken. Living in northern New Jersey for 60 years, Richard worked as a trucker, handyman, and a Lodi volunteer firefighter. He retired to Toms River with his wife and family to be closer to the shore. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War, member of the Holy Name Society of St. Justin's Church, an active volunteer at Community Medical Center, and an avid gym -goer at Planet Fitness in Toms River.

He is predeceased by his mother, Frieda, father, Rudolph, and older brother, Rudy. He is survived by his wife, Esther, his three daughters, Ramona, Regina, and Freida; and his seven grandchildren, whom he adored. Guiding his daughters and granddaughters to be resourceful and independent women, "Poppy" was the greatest teacher, storyteller, chef, and fixer-upper to all of his grandchildren. Believing that everyone should speak their mind and not be afraid of life, Richard made an impact on all people that he met.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 5, 2012 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road in Toms River.
