Josephine Mary Deo, "Aunt Jo", of Neptune, NJ formerly of Belmar, NJ. Josephine Mary Deo was born in Newark, NJ on August 29, 1936 and fell peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus and Mary, on November 8, 2012. She was 76. Her parents Patrick Deo and Rose Peter-Paul Deo immigrated from San Gregorio, Italy. Josephine was the youngest of four predeceased brothers and two sisters. She chose to live a simple life; single, having never married and devoted her life to her family. Her career as a seamstress began upon high school graduation, and continued for 30 years. She was a member of Garment Workers Union and was employed throughout northern New Jersey as well as at Fort Monmouth altering soldiers uniforms. A teen of the 50's, she loved Rock and Roll, and fully experienced the birth of that era of music. She never sat out a dance and taught many of us how to. Aunt Jo often told the stories of her family, friends and neighbors from Newark. She shared our history with us, remembering every name, date, and event. She was our family Historian, but more than that she was our; Aunt Jo, our Aunt Josephine, or to a few, Aunt Josi,
To each of us, whether family or friend, she was bigger than life..always the life of the party. She made great effort throughout her time with us to stay connected with her family and friends and each relationship was unique. She was known for her Faith and her honesty and to "Tell it like it is". Aunt Jo never gave up in life; with family and friend support surrounding her, she lived self sufficient and independent. She shared with us hope and strength. She grew deeper and deeper in love with Jesus and Mary as the years went by; loving the Rosary and Mass. She was always a warrior with St Michael, defending the faith, Christ and His Church. She lies at rest with her mother, father and sister Victoria, in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
She is survived by 167 nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as countless friends.
Josephine loved children and requested any donations in her name be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or to those that helped her through Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Go to www.stjude.org/waystohelp or call 800-805-5856 or www.deborah.org or call 609-383-9000
