Julia C. Birdsong

AGE: 89 • Normandy Beach

Julia C. Birdsong (nee Conrad), 89, of Normandy Beach, formerly of West Caldwell, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2012. The youngest of 11 siblings, Mrs. Birdsong was born in Mocanaqua, Pa., May 16, 1923. She resided in West Caldwell, NJ, the majority of her adult life, before moving to her beloved beach home in Normandy Beach, NJ in 2005. She was a dedicated mother to her three children. Julie also was a volunteer driver for many years for both the American Red Cross and Senior Citizens of Caldwell/West Caldwell. Mrs. Birdsong was an avid golfer and long time member of the Essex Fells Country Club, where she was past president of the Woman's Board. She enjoyed competing in the New Jersey State Women's Golf Association and the Women's Metropolitan Golf Association. Mrs. Birdsong also enjoyed bowling and achieved many 250-plus scores over the years. She was an active parishioner for 50 years at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Caldwell and supported and gave generously to many local charities including the .

Mrs. Birdsong was predeceased by her husband Robert Sr. and her three brothers and seven sisters. Surviving are her devoted children; Robert Birdsong Jr. and his wife, Lee M., Carol Birdsong Cavanaugh and her husband, Richard M. Jr., and William C. Birdsong and his wife, Gail, and was 'Baba' to her nine cherished grandchildren, Rob, Jon, Sam, George, Katie, David, Julia, Emily and Blake. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews, and step-daughter, Claudia Jackson and her children, Peter, Steven and Andrew and their children.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greater New Jersey Chapter, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834-1365, would be appreciated.
