Dr. Richard William Lang, 90, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 15, 2013 in Lakewood, NJ. He was born in Plainfield and lived there for 55 years. He had a summer home in Bay Head before moving permanently to Mantoloking in 1977 and then to Point Pleasant in 1998. A graduate of Plainfield High School, he attended Rutgers University and New York University Medical School. He interned at Bellevue Hospital in NYC and completed his residency at Long Island College Hospital. nDr. Lang initially practiced at Muhlenberg Hospital as a general practitioner before specializing in Obstetrics & Gynecology at his office at 19 Holly Street in Cranford. Dr. Lang delivered over 6000 babies and was a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He was awarded the Golden Merit Award by the Medical Society of New Jersey for "Fifty Years of Distinguished Service as a Practicing Physician" in 1997. During World War II, he served with the US Navy Reserves as an Ensign, and later as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War in the 495th and 30th Medical Groups in Wiesbaden, Germany and Casablanca, French Morocco before being honorably discharged in 1954. Dr. Lang enjoyed his spare time trap shooting, building boat models, fishing, boating and later in life, golfing. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family down at the shore. He had been a member of the Gunning River Club, the Plainfield Country Club, the Bay Head Yacht Club for over 50 years, the Amwell Hunting Club, the Log Cabin Gun Club and Manasquan River Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Ann Lippincott; his sister, Marion Elizabeth Lang of Freehold; his son, Richard William Lang, Jr. and his wife, Barbara Betner Lang of Scotch Plains; his daughter, Suzanne Lippincott Lang of Ithaca, NY and his two grandchildren, Richard William Lang III, LT US Navy of Lemoore, CA and Morgan Betner Lang of Virginia Beach, VA. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Ball of Sarasota, FL and his brother, Robert Earl Lang of Plainfield, NJ and Palm Beach, FL.
Private interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Friends are invited to join in a celebration of his life on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11AM at the Manasquan River Golf Club, 843 Riverview Drive, Brielle, NJ 08730. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Log Cabin Gun Club Trust, PO Box 615, Chatham, NJ 07928 or to the Parkinson's Research Foundation, PO Box 96318, Washington, DC 20090-6318.
