James Lafayette Dobbins

AGE: 92 • Asbury Park

James Lafayette Dobbins, son of James Albert and Mary Dobbins, passed away on Tues, January 22, 2013. He was born in Germantown, PA on May 4, 1920, and later moved to Asbury Park, NJ.

James served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He worked in the Depart of Defense at Fort Monmouth for 40 years and retired in 1980. After he retired, James served as a member of various community and church organizations. He was a member of the local VFW, commissioner for the Housing Authority in Asbury Park, and was a longtime member of St Augustine Episcopal Church, in Asbury Park, before moving to West Palm Beach, FL in 2005.

He was predeceased by his wife, Theadora V. Dobbins; daughter, Carol Dobbins Van Huff; 3 sisters, Beatrice Brown, Fleta Henderson and Louise Moore.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Tracy Carmichael of Wellington, FL; 3 great granddaughters, Alia and Laila Carmichael of Wellington, FL, and Hana Carmichael of Wakefield, MA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as well as a host of friends in New Jersey and Florida.

Visiting hours will be 9 am Wed, January 30 until time of the funeral at 11am at St Augustine Episcopal Church, 155 Prospect Ave, Asbury Park. Interment will follow the service in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. James H. Hunt Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements.
