John (Bud) Hayes

AGE: 88 • Mount Holly

John (Bud) Hayes, 88, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013. He was born in Mount Holly and was a lifelong area resident. Bud served under General Patton in World War II, 3rd Army, 4th Armoured Division, Second Wave in Utah Beach, continuing through the Battle of the Bulge, receiving 8 Bronze Battle Stars. Bud's love of stock car racing led him to race and build cars most of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Warren Grove Fire Co. and was an active member of the Smithville Fire Co. for many years.

Bud is survived by his wife, Anna Mae of 67 years; daughter, Nancy Hall and husband Glenn; son, John Hayes Jr. and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Nancy Renee, Deena, Holly, Johnny, Danny, Alyssa and Erin; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Martin Chambers and sister-in-law Lorraine, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, and his loyal dog, Bandy.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, followed by a service at 12:30 p.m. at West Creek Methodist Church, Church St. and Thomas Ave., West Creek. Wood Funeral Home, 134 East Main St., Tuckerton, is handling the arrangements.
