George J. Hipsley, 72, of Brick, passed away on Monday, August 26, at the Claremont Center in Point Pleasant after a long period of illness. Born in Jersey City and from Bayonne, George relocated to Brick in 1991.
George is predeceased by his mother Marie Helmsdorfer and his loving aunts Florence, Katherine, and Madeline Helmsdorfer, his uncles George and Harry Helmsdorfer, and his cherished Yorkshire terrier, Buster. George is survived by his wife of thirty four years, Mary Ellen, his son George Hipsley Jr., his son Anthony J. Hipsley and his fiancée Teresa Devine, his daughter Lynn Hall, his grandchildren Jessica Hipsley, Anna Hipsley, and Christian Hall, and his beloved Yorkshire terrier, Prince Buddy of Baywood.
George was an avid boater, motorcycle enthusiast, and animal lover. He was also a proud member of the United Transportation Union (Local #1370) for over fifty years. George was an active participant in his community. He was a member of the following groups: the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of Belmar, the Old Guard of Point Pleasant, the Brick Elks Club, the MS Society support group, and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. His fierce wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
The viewing for George will be held at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home in Toms River on Tuesday, September 3, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Martha's Church in Point Pleasant on Wednesday, September 4, at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
