Lester L. Pierce Sr.

AGE: 89 • Brick

Lester L. Pierce Sr., 89, of Brick Township, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. Born in Long Branch, he lived there for 56 years until moving to Brick Township in 1980. Les worked as an Accountant for Ritter Trucking for nearly 30 years. After retiring from Ritter he worked as a salesman at Christmas In the City, Ocean Twp. for 20 years.

During World War II, Les served his country honorably with the U.S. Army 297th Combat Engineers and was with that unit when they landed on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. Traveling and a day at the races were among the pleasures Les enjoyed.

Les was predeceased by his wife, Cathy in 1978 and wife, Hildegard in 2007; a son, Howard in 2002 and daughter-in-law, Gail Olsen Pierce in May of this year. He is survived by a brother, Floyd Pierce of West Long Branch; sons, Lester "Skip" Pierce and wife Karen of Lincroft, Gary Pierce of Wayside and Wayne Pierce and wife Debbie of Eatontown; and a daughter, Anna Pierce of Tinton Falls. He is also survived by stepson, Roland Gailis and wife Mary of Berkeley and stepdaughter, Anita Doyle of Barnegat. In addition he is survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. (corner of Third Ave.), Long Branch. Funeral 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at the funeral home, with the service to begin at 10 a.m., followed by the interment at Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch.
