Charles Hight

AGE: 79 • formerly of Point Pleasant Beach

Charles Hight, formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in Grass Valley, CA. He was 79. Charles was born on July 31, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ to John and Margaret Hight. He graduated in 1959 from Jersey City State Teachers College. While attending college, he met his wife, Florence on a field trip. They were married in 1959 in Jersey City.

In 1964, they moved to Point Pleasant Beach. He taught in the Toms River School District for 30 years until his retirement in 1994. After retiring, he and Florence moved to Grass Valley, CA. Charles volunteered at Union Hill School from 1998 until 2012. He also volunteered with In Concert Sierra for many years. Charles loved playing the piano and was an avid reader. He enjoyed listening to classical music and watching ballets. Charles loved having lunch at Paulette's Country Kitchen every Saturday. Most of all, he loved being surrounded by his family.

Charles is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Thomas (Kathy) of Rahway, NJ; daughter, Dorothy Goodnow (James); grandchildren, Jeffrey, Daniel, Kevin and Sarah Goodnow, all of Grass Valley; and his brother, Richard (Jane) of Toms River, NJ.

He will be remembered for his devotion to the church, his dry sense of humor and his smile!

Because of his love for reading and music, contributions can be made to the library and music programs at Union Hill School, 10879 Bartlett Drive, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
