James J. McCarthy, 80, of Lakewood, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Shorrock Gardens Care Center, Lakewood. Born and raised in Montclair, James lived in Verona and Spring Lake Hts., NJ and in Naples, FL. He was an auditor for the CFTC and later State of New Jersey until his retirement. James proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. He loved the beach, the Yankees and the Giants. His biggest love was spending time with his 6 grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Mary Hurley and her husband William of Manahawkin, and James J. McCarthy III and his wife Jennifer of Eatontown; 6 grandchildren, Kayla, Breanna, Nicholas, Vincent Hurley, Julia and James McCarthy IV. He also leaves a sister, Margaret McCarthy of Fayetteville, NY; and his former wife, Kathleen McCarthy.
Visiting will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair.
