James Campbell

AGE: 81 • Norman, OK

James (Jim) Thomas Campbell, 81, died October 16th. He was a native of New Jersey, but called Norman, OK his home for the last thirty three years. He was born May 5, 1932 in New Brunswick, NJ. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Cryptograph Operator during the Korean War. He married Marie, his wife of 58 years, and they raised their family in Edison, NJ. Jim worked for the U.S. Post Office in New Brunswick repairing the mail sorting computers. While there he served as President of the local Postal Union. After he completed his teaching degree from Trenton State College in 1979, he was transferred to Norman, OK where he taught Electronics and Technology to other postal employees. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, receiving a Masters of Education Degree in 1990 with honors, and was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church Jim served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of Council, and Interim Principal for Trinity Lutheran School. He was an active member of the Moore VFW Post # 8706, serving in many capacities including Post Commander (1997 - 1998) as well as a member of the American Legion Post #88 in Norman OK. He loved traveling and favorite places included Kennebunkport ME, Aruba, Colorado, Galveston, Scotland and England. Though his health had been failing since his heart attack in 2010, he kept busy with friends, card games, cowboy movies and ball games, and remained Vice President of the Seniors Group at his church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Pardun) and James Thomas Campbell Sr. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Von Spreckelsen) Campbell, three children: Kim (Gregory) Dodds, Dawn (Elliot) Thostesen, and James Thomas III (Kathy) Campbell, and five grandchildren: Amy and Justin Kammerer, Mark (Karen) and Zachary Thostesen, and Kristopher (Robyn) Pennywell, and three great- grandchildren: Skyler, Ella and Kolton.

He will be laid to rest in his family plot at Old Tennent Cemetery in Freehold NJ. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Trinity Lutheran School, 603 Classen Blvd., Norman OK 73071. Viewing and Services will be held at Ocean Grove Memorial Home, 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
