Alfred Calabrese

AGE: 66 • Bradley Beach

Alfred (Alfie) Calabrese 66, of Bradley Beach, NJ died Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Alfred was born in San Fratello, Sicily, Italy and was raised in Palisades Park, NJ. He lived in Paramus, NJ, before moving to Bradley Beach in 1999. Alfie served as SPC in the US Army 101st AB during the Vietnam War and worked in union construction. He was an avid pool player, tennis player and golfer.

Alfie was predeceased by his parents Rosalia & Antonio Calabrese, a sister Teresa Vecchiarelli, and 2 brothers Salvatore and Joseph Calabrese. Surviving are his beloved wife of 37 years Gail Thorsen-Calabrese, 2 daughters; Christine Smock and Cara Thorsen, a granddaughter; Alexis Smock. He also leaves his siblings; Benedetta Sidoti, Angela Caruso, Rosalia Frank, Antonino Calabrese and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was a proud Godfather of Cathy Costanzo, Roasalie Vecchiarelli.

Visiting will be Sunday, 2-6 pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 11 AM at Church of the Ascension Bradley Beach, NJ. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100 Silver Spring, MD 20910.
