AGE: 92 • Long Branch

John James Murphy, 92, of Long Branch, died peacefully on July 6, 2014, at home. He was a resident of Long Branch for over 65 years and a communicant of Holy Trinity Church of Christ the King Parish in Long Branch. John was a route salesman for Baldanza's Bakery in Long Branch until 1994. He was a Past Fire Chief and an Exempt Member of the Oceanport Hook and Ladder Company; a founding member of the Oceanport First Aid Squad; the Long Branch Old Guard and the Asbury Park Elks. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 63 years, Maria Grazia "Grace" Baldanza Murphy; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia & Steven Walker of Middletown and Marie Murphy of Long Beach Island; his sister, Margaret Nevins of Cape May Court House; 2 granddaughters, Stacey & Scott Annand and Jennifer & Ron Rice; a grandson, Jonathan Walker and 2 great grandchildren, Josh and Paisley all from San Diego, CA.

"Uncle John" will be also missed by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members who thought the world of him. John will be remembered for his love of sweets (one piece was never enough) and his wonderful story-telling abilities. John enjoyed sitting with his grandchildren watching the Giants and the Yankees.

The family wishes to thank his dedicated caretakers, Elaine & Kate, the VNA & VNA Hospice as well as Dr. Sherif Malek and his staff for taking such good care of him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue, (corner of Third Avenue) Long Branch. Funeral Friday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 am Service. Entombment will be at Woodbine Mausoleum in Oceanport.
