Frederick M. Sigrist, 88, of Belmar, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with his beloved wife Doris, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by his side. Fred was born in Glen Ridge and lived in Upper Montclair, East Orange, Cedar Grove, and Belmar. Fred enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943. He was stationed in Fukowaka, Japan as an armor gunner during the occupation. After settling in Neptune, he worked as an insurance broker and contractor. Fred served as the president of the Belmar Fishing Club for 12 years after retirement. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Doris; five children, Mary Jane Carrigg and her husband Fred of Middletown, Fred Sigrist and his fiancée Karen Gicking of Brielle, Cindy Kapalko and her husband Greg of Belmar, Pam Bennett and her husband Michael of Neptune, and James Sigrist of Belmar. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and many close friends and family. Interment will be private. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at St. Rose Church, Belmar, with a gathering to follow at the Belmar Fishing Club, Ocean Ave. Belmar.
