Henry F. Gyss, 93, of Silver Ridge Park Westerly section of Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away peacefully Saturday, August 2, 2014 at home. Born in Queens, NY, he lived in Middle Village before moving to Berkeley Twp. 26 years ago. Henry was a Police Officer for the New York Police Department, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a US Navy World War II veteran. Henry received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from St. Johns University and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from C.U.N.Y. John Jay College. He was a parishioner and usher at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp. and was a member of the Silver Ridge Park Men's Club and life member of the VFW Post 8352, Berkeley Twp.
He was predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters. Henry is survived by his wife of 65 years Florence (nee Bushmann), 3 daughters and their husbands Susan & Guy Gregory of Secaucus, NJ, Marianne & John McManus of Sayville, NY and Cynthia & Dr. Donald Keith of Woodbury, Long Island, NY, a brother Edward of Farmingdale, NY and 8 grandchildren Christopher & Matthew Gregory, Ian & Katie McManus, Allison, Ryan, Thomas & Andrew Keith.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday 10:30am at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Silver Ridge Park First Aid Squad or the Wounded Warriors Project.
