John Kondrup Obituary

John Edward Kondrup

AGE: 93 • Rumson

John Edward Kondrup, 93, born in Red Bank, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Rumson, with his family by his side on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014. John served in the Army during WWII where he met and married the love of his life, Delores Kondrup, who predeceased him in 2008. He lived in Rumson for 67 years and worked as the borough mechanic until he retired in 1986. He was a founding member of the Monmouth Church of Christ and an active member of the Oceanic Hook and Ladder Co. #1 as well as having served as Chaplain. He volunteered as a driver for the Rumson First Aid and was active with the Rumson Senior Citizens.

He always had a smile on his face and vegetables growing out back in his garden—enough for the whole neighborhood. He rode his bike around town until the age of 91.

He is survived by his siblings, Grace and Al Kondrup; four children, Roger Kondrup and his wife, Andrea; David Kondrup; Linda Erickson and Laura Lopes; eight grandchildren, Marc Kondrup; Robert Erickson and his wife, Michelle; Tiffany Sanders and her husband, Jimmy; Jessica Erickson; Dori Letke and her husband, Andy; Johnny, Kara and Danny Lopes; four and a half great-grandchildren, Abigail and Cooper Sanders; Soren Erickson; Jayden Cortes; the soon to be born Wolfgang Letke; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Monmouth Church of Christ, 312 Hance Ave., Tinton Falls, with funeral to follow. All funeral arrangements are being handled by the Thompson Memorial Home in Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made in his name to the Oceanic Fire Department in Rumson, NJ, or the Monmouth Church of Christ. Roger, Linda, David & Laura ~ Most of my fondest childhood memories involve your dad & mom. Our community was so much richer for having them among us. Your dad's ever-present smile and love will always be remembered by those who were lucky enough to know him. He was truly a blessing to us all. May God hold you close in this time of great sorrow.

I will never forget the jokes he seemed to fit into any situation, the endless amounts of cake and cookies we shared together, and that famous wink and smile I could count on every time I saw him. I'll never forget the memories of him that I am privileged to have..... I'll miss you on the second pew, Grandjohn. I love you

Dave and Laura, Tom and I were remarking yesterday how we never saw your father without a smile on his face. How fortunate you are to have had him in your life for so many years. May your fond memories get you through this difficult time.
