George J. Murphy Sr.

AGE: 67 • Neshanic Station

George J. Murphy Sr., 67, of Neshanic Station NJ, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY before residing in Neshanic Station, NJ. George served in the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971. He was awarded a variety of Medals and badges for his service, two of which included the 101st Airborne Jump Wings, Purple Heart, Pathfinders Torch, and the Silver Star. Mr. Murphy was a retired police officer with the N.Y.P.D. Bomb Squad. He was a member of the National Pathfinder Association, N.Y.P.D. Emerald Society, and Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH).

He is predeceased by his beloved parents George and Patricia Curry Murphy, his 1st wife of 30 years, Patty Shields, and one brother, Gregory Murphy. Surviving are his beloved wife of 9 years, Mary T. Thompson Murphy of Neshanic Station NJ; his loving children, Kerry (Paul) Stapleton of Massapequa Park, L.I. NY, Erin (Tony) Hendershot of Neshanic Station NJ, George (Krissy) Murphy of Massapequa Park, L.I. NY, and Brian (Brenna) Murphy of Branchburg NJ; 4 dear brothers, Thomas Murphy of Breezy Point Queens NY, Billy Murphy of Seaford L.I. NY, Kenneth (Denise) Murphy of Brooklyn NY, and Michael (Eileen) Murphy of Seaford, L.I. NY; 2 loving sisters, Colleen Lott of Pittsburgh, PA and Patricia Murphy of Oneonta NY; 2 wonderful sister-in-laws, Kathleen O'Connor and Mary (Kevin) McSwiggan both of Messapequa L.I. NY; a wonderful brother-in-law, James (Theresa) Shields of Shirley L.I. NY; 13 cherished grandchildren, Emily, Paul, Brian, George, Tony, Patrick, Jake, Sean, Jenna, Meghan, Kaitlyn, Conner and Gavin; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM, and Thursday August 27, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South Branchburg NJ, 08876. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 beginning with a prayer at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 AM funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church in Three Bridges, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Bridgewater NJ. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
