Brenda R. Cassanese

AGE: 92 • Fair Haven

Brenda R. Cassanese, 92, of Fair Haven, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. She was the daughter of the late M. Floyd and Nellie Smith and a fourth generation resident of Fair Haven.

Brenda was active in her community as a 65-year member of the Fair Haven Fire Department's Ladies Auxillary and a past Trustee of the United Methodist Church in Fair Haven. During her career, she worked as a Secretary for the Red Bank Board of Education. She was an avid sailor on the Navesink River and enjoyed golfing with her late husband.

Brenda was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Charles L. Fugate in 1956 and Alfred B. Cassanese in 2004. She is survived by her loving children, Charles L. Fugate Jr. of Coupeville, Washington and Susan L. O'Brien of Fair Haven. She loved her time with her grandchildren, Brian W. (Christine) Fugate of Fair Haven, Erin J. (Blair III) Guker of Toms River and Heather A. O'Brien of Long Branch. Also surviving are her dear great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Kyle Fugate and Blair IV and Aidan Guker.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A life celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at the United Methodist Church, 300 Ridge Road, Fair Haven 07704. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Rd., Middletown. Please visit Brenda's memorial website available at www.johnedayfuneralhome.com.
