Dr. Elsa J. Lake

Dr. Elsa J. Lake, 82, of Elberon, NJ, loving wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at home on 13 June 2017. Dr. Lake was married for 50 years to Floyd J. Lake. She was born in Havana, Cuba where she practiced law after graduating from the University of Havana. Dr. Lake immigrated to the United States in 1960. She earned her Masters and PhD in Spanish Literature and began teaching Spanish at Ocean Township High School. Dr. Lake loved to teach. After 35 years teaching at Ocean Township she "retired" and took a position as an adjunct Spanish professor at Monmouth University. She taught Spanish for 18 years at the university and was looking forward to meeting new students in the Fall of 2017. Dr. Lake loved to spend time with her family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones. Through her steadfast faith she prayed for all, cared for all, and was loved by all.

Dr. Lake was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Lake, and her parents, Manuel Taboada and Yldefonsa Jorge, of Havana, Cuba. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Alberto Taboada and wife Jean; nieces and nephews, Karen O'Hare and husband Michael of Manasquan; Keith Taboada and wife Patti of Brielle; Linda Derrick and husband Richard Jr. of Basking Ridge; Brian Taboada and wife Amanda Bottomley of Island Heights; and Alan Taboada and wife Judy of Oceanport; grand nieces and nephews, Jordan, Katharine, Riley and Michael O'Hare; George and Ana Taboada; Morgan and Richard Derrick III; Peter and Mark Taboada; and Atticus, Ruby and Zoe Taboada.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, 751 Main Avenue Bay Head, NJ, Tuesday June 20th, at 11 am. Interment will be private. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.

Rest in Peace to one of my favorite OTHS teachers whom was a true gem and a fantastic educator. She taught me to not memorize but truly learn to speak the language of Spanish. I will never forget the memories of her classroom. The special platform in the front of her room built especially for her because she was so short. A strict but fair educator whom often called her students by last name. A true one of a kind whom made a lasting impression on my life.

Elsa was such a wonderful woman!! Always pleasant, always had kind words for everyone.
I first met her while working at Sovereign/Santander Bank and my husband was her Landscaper. We loved her!!!
Our condolences to her family, she will be truly missed!!

I had the privilege to work with Dr. Lake at Monmouth University. As both immigrants we shared stories. She comforted me when I was missing my family. She was a wonderful person. You will be missed Elsa.

Dr. Lake. What a great person. She would always call me Miguelito. I remember when she first came to teach at Ocean Township High School. We gave her such a hard time, but in a nice way. She always kept her cool and was not only a great teacher, but someone you could count on then and always to have an ear for you or an idea. She's probably surfing the Milky Way already.

I loved Elsa!! I have helped her for at least 20 years with her jewelry purchases for her family from Earth Treasures. I would say to her, "I would love to meet your family because you adore each and every one of them." She always would say "I have to give my Nieces certain items so they will have remembrance of me." I would say "Don't be silly that's not going to happen for a long time!!" Elsa came in to see me a few weeks ago. She was happy that Monmouth University was finished for the semester. She had said she wants to relax and enjoy the summer. I am going to miss her dreadfully. Please feel free to contact me I would love to hear from you especially if you have any questions. Elsa is reunited with her husband that she missed tremendously. God Bless Her.
