Mack Smith Obituary

Mack McKinley Smith passed away peacefully November 1, 2013. He was born November 27, 1927, to Mack McKinley Smith, Sr. and Laura Enita Hayes in Houston, Texas. Mack was big brother to his late sister Evelyn Packard. He remained in Houston, Texas until he graduated from high school and enlisted into the United States Air Force on April 12, 1946.

Mack was a staunch sports fan he loved all types of sports and while stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, Mack was attending a baseball game and met this wife to be, Versie Ree Smith. They were rooting for opposite teams and began to have an argument. This argument lead to laughs, the laughs led to love and they married on December 20, 1947. This union lasted fifty-five years, resulting with seven children, ending only due to Versie's departure to meet the Lord.

Mack served the United States Air Force for twenty five years. Often moving from state to state and sometimes country to country, including a tour in the Vietnam War. December 31, 1971, he retired desiring to end the constant separations from his wife and children. After his retirement from the United States Air Force he worked in various capacities in the Yuba County area.

To cherish his memory, Mack leaves his children, Mack, III, (deceased), Patricia, Aundra, Carol, Marcus, Anita and Aslena, two son-in-laws, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, November 12, from 9a.m. until 11a.m. at Sierra View Mortuary. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday at 11a.m. at the mortuary with committal to follow at Sierra View Memorial Park.

Mack loved my girls....that's the testimony. He was "Grandpa" and showed them love and kindness. Birthdays, holidays, trips to Denny's and McDonalds for breakfast will not be the same. I'm grateful for the love he showered on us and that twinkle in his eye that let us know that we were special. God bless all his family and friends and know that he has moved on to a better place.
